AGSH.1

Spring Training is now in full swing, and the 2015 MLB season is right around the corner. Expectations for teams throughout the league could not be higher. No pressure Cubs! For most of us, there is no greater pressure than what we put on ourselves every year during the fantasy baseball season. That being said, it’s time to start drafting!

Honesty, I’m a little hungrier this year than in previous years. That’s what tends to happen when you lose two league championships on the last day of the season. Yes, it does still hurt thank you for asking.

This season will play out much like any other. Players will get hot. Players will get cold. Certain closers will lose their job by the end of April. Mike Trout will inevitably be bought in some auction league for $75. A newbie will ask what team Barry Bonds plays for in an offline snake draft and he will be laughed out of the room. And a player will trip over a sprinkler in spring training and already find himself on the DL. Oops, that last one happened already.

Our AGSH fantasy gurus have compiled a list of the top 10 players in fantasy baseball this season. Within our top 10 you may find some similarities to other top 10’s out there in the fantasy world. Fortunately, you won’t find Barry Bonds name anywhere near it. Enjoy!

AGSH Top 10 Fantasy Baseball Players for 2015

1. Mike Trout-  Hands down the best outfielder in baseball. He may not be a 30 stolen base threat anymore, but he will still put up at least 30 HR/115 RBI/.315 AVG this season. Nuff’said!

2. Clayton Kershaw- Most will read this and scoff at how high we have Kershaw ranked. That’s fine, we’ll just have to agree to disagree. However, when you can find a starter who has averaged 17 wins, 233 strikeouts, an opponent batting average of .201, and a 2.04 ERA over the last three seasons there won’t be reason to scoff anymore.

3. Andrew McCutchen- One of the most consistent outfielders in the NL, could be heading for yet another breakout season. And he’s just now entered his peak years.

4. Miguel Cabrera- Year after year Cabrera has established himself as a consistent source of elite power, and average. Always a safe first round pick.

5. Paul Goldschmidt- Even though he missed a great deal of last season due to injury, Goldschmidt is 100% healthy and ready to return to his 2013 form. Translation? Look for something along the lines of 35 HR/ 120 RBI/ .300 AVG. Oh, and don’t forget those 14 stolen bases he has averaged over the last three seasons!

6. Carlos Gomez- Many fantasy owners considered Gomez to be a statistical fluke after his 2013 season, but they were proven wrong again in 2014. Gomez is a great combination of speed and power, which will propel him toward another big season in Milwaukee.

Felix.Hernandez.action2

7. Felix Hernandez- Yes, it is quite unprecedented that we have two starting pitchers in our top 10. That being said, Felix Hernandez is just that good. Arguably, one of the best pitchers in the game, Hernandez dominated last season with 21 pure quality starts. Over the last three seasons he has averaged a 2.75 ERA, 224 strikeouts, and an opponent batting average of .227. They don’t call him King Felix for nothing.

8.  Robinson Cano- Even though he experienced a small amount of regression during his first season in Seattle, Cano had a good showing statistically (14/82/.314). Don’t buy in to the hype that he is a bust, Cano is poised for a bounce-back in 2015.

9. Jose Abreu- The rookie phenom is back for his sophomore season and he’s looking to avoid the word slump altogether. It’s a safe bet that Abreu could possibly regress, but don’t count on the regression being lower than 30/100/.300. That’s the kind of regression that fantasy owners won’t mind.

10. Giancarlo Stanton- Stanton ended last season on a scary note. Not because of how he was injured, but because he finished the season with only 37 HR when he looked to be on pace for 47. Expect big things from Stanton, and don’t be surprised if he passes 40 HR’s this season.

Check back with us next week as we begin to break down our fantasy baseball position rankings!

I am a huge fan of my wife's irrational hatred of Paul Giamatti, my wonderful daughter, baseball, old school wrasslin', movies, and friends. Dislikes? People who drive slow in the left lane, TV shows starring George Lopez, Buzzfeed quizzes, and Caillou (Geez that kid is annoying!).
